French Onion Casserole

Ingredients
- Servings: 4
- 4 medium onions, sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine
- 2 tablespoons flour
- salt, to taste
- 1 dash pepper
- 3/4 cup beef bouillon
- 1/4 cup sherry wine
- 1 1/2 cups croutons, plain
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 cup swiss cheese, shredded
- 3 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
Recipe
- 1 cook onions in butter, just until tender.
- 2 blend in flour, salt, and pepper.
- 3 add bouillon and sherry.
- 4 cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
- 5 turn into 1 quart casserole.
- 6 toss croutons with 2 tablespoons melted butter and spoon on the onion mixture, evenly.
- 7 sprinkle with swiss cheese and parmesan if desired.
- 8 put in oven under broiler and broil for about 1 minute until the cheese melts.
- 9 serve immediately.
